We have been meaning to hike a trail close by our house. The trail is up near the base of the summit of a local mountain. After doing some reading, we found that the hike was a 5 mile out and back up the mountain. We started out hike, and all seemed to be going well, we kept getting higher and higher, taking switch back after switch back. Then, we started going down, further and further. But, we kept hiking, until we reached the end, which most defiantly was not the top of a mountain. Instead, we found a beautiful view...of the FREEWAY. We also realized the hike, because of all the switch backs, had not really taken us that far. We were incredibly disappointed at not being on the correct trail. After some further research we realized the trail to go up the mountain was about 5 miles west of where we were.
So, being the wonderful hikers we are (and the fact that L was hiking with a hurt toe), rather then take the million switch backs back to our car, we decided to take the road, which was only about a mile of flat ground. I am completely sure we looked like vagabonds. We both had day packs, we were in our grungy hiking clothes, and we had our dog. All we needed was a sign saying, "out of luck, give us money!" and we would have been set!
Unfortunately (and fortunately, it was the ugliest trail I have ever been on) I didn't get any pictures of this failed hiking venture, but I do have some of the last hiking epic fail from last summer that I never posted.

Those are such gorgeous shots.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till it gets nicer so we can go hiking too.
