Today Luke's family all got together to hold their annual egg dying party. Every year there is a contest to see who can come up with the best decorated egg. Each couple is given their own dozen of eggs to decorate with what every they want (so long as the eggs are still edible). Then after all the eggs are decorated, Luke's dad picks the winner for the year. I have been in the family four years and have yet to win. This year I went with a painting technique using only gel food coloring.
I only finished with 2 eggs. The bird is mine. I thought for sure it would win. But it was bested by one of Luke's food coloring spray painted eggs.
Every year after we decorate eggs, we have a tradition of having a devotional about Easter.
Many years ago, Luke's Mother found a lovely devotional using plastic eggs to teach about Christ.
It is in an egg carton and each plastic egg holds a scripture and a prop to go along with the scripture.
It goes though the story of Christ's death and resurrection.
We do the same thing every year.
But this year it touched me particularly.
We have had a lot of loss this past year in our family.
It has been difficult for more than just one family member.
But tonight when Luke's Grandmother (who just lost her husband) opened up the last egg,
only to find it empty, she cried and then I cried.
Because that is what Easter is about.
Resurrection.
the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
I hope you all enjoy this wonderful season
Happy Easter!
